The National Teaching Council is established by the 2008 Education Act (Act 778) as amended in the Education Regulatory Bodies Act 2020 (Act 1023) with the charge to professionalise teaching in Ghana. It thus, licenses and registers teachers, regulates the teaching profession in Ghana and conducts licensure examinations.
The appointing letter dated March 14, 2022 and signed by Dr. Christian Addai-Poku, Registrar of the NTC, indicated the NTC Board’s confidence in Prof. Boateng to bring his rich experience, skills, and knowledge to bear on the work of the Committee and by extension the Council.
The Examination Committee would make recommendations to the Council about matters referred to it regarding the conduct of Teachers Licensure Examination (TLE), the periodic review of examination policies and the guidelines for the conduct of the TLE, preparation of examination report, the preparation and dissemination of examination reports, and the consideration of an entrance examination into teacher education programmes.
It would also receive reports from the Examination Departments, periodically review policies and guidelines related to activities of the Department and perform any other function assigned to it by the NTC Board.
The Management and staff of AAMUSTED received news of the appointment with joy. Subsequently, the Management has sent a hearty congratulatory message to Prof. Boateng, in which they highly commended him for the feat.
The message, signed by the Acting Registrar of AAMUSTED, Mr. Michael Kofi Adu, read in parts, “Attaining this height is a true testament to your admirable character of hard work and dedication to duty. Management is confident in your ability to discharge this challenging responsibility faithfully and excellently. We do not doubt that your tenure, ultimately, would pass as one of the best times ever known by the NTC Board in terms of the quality of its examinations.”
The Management also encouraged him to go higher and do more exploits to draw plaudits for himself and the entire University. “By no mean a measure, this appointment has further projected the image of AAMUSTED, something we appreciate very much,” the Management conceded in the congratulatory message and encouraged other staff to emulate the example.
The 49-year-old Prof. Boateng is a keen individual with interdisciplinary knowledge. He has over 20 years of professional experience in teaching and learning in higher education. He has been a fellow of the United Kingdom Higher Education Academy since 2009.
He has offered research leadership and higher education management expertise in Ghana, Denmark, and the UK.
He taught at the University of Portsmouth, as a Senior Lecturer, for 11 years. In 2018, he returned to Ghana driven by the desire to contribute to the development of his Motherland. He took up an appointment as Senior Lecturer at the Department of Construction and Wood Technology Education, College of Technology Education, Kumasi (COLTEK), then of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) but now converted to AAMUSTED.
Currently, he is the Dean of the Faculty of Business Education (FBE) of AAMUSTED, proving his mettle as an astute scholar with high-level leadership experience on a global scale. Prof. Boateng is widely published. His academic publications had received over 630 citations as of March 2022.
