On Monday, February 3rd, 2025, the National Teaching Council (NTC) hosted a delegation from the Sierra Leone Teaching Service Commission. The visit was to study Ghana’s Legal and Institutional Frameworks in the Educational Sector and to gain insight into the Teacher Professionalism Process in Ghana.
The motive of the visit was to understand how the Ghanaian Teacher Licensing System and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) operate and acquire knowledge on the critical infrastructure needed in the implementation of the teacher licensing system and establish professional linkages with some Ghanaian institutions.
Dr. Christian Addai Poku, the Registrar of the National Teaching Council who led the management team, in his presentation showcased how the Council has transitioned from 2017 to date and shared transformational policies introduced by the council to regulate the teaching profession.
The delegation also paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, where a brief discussion was held to discuss the growth and development of both Ghana and Sierra Leone Educational Systems. The Minister for Education also took the opportunity to ask Mr. Lans Keifala, the Chairman of the Teaching Service Commission in Sierra Leone, and Dr. Dennis Luseni about the free education project in Sierra Leone, and its implementation systems and what Ghana can learn from Sierra Leone and vice versa.
