At the Accra International Conference Centre on Monday, May 30, 2022, the registrar of the National Teaching Council together with the Honourable Minister for Education, welcomed AFTRA Executive Board members, Ministers of Education from the Africa Region, participants and partners from UNESCO, Education International, Commonwealth of Learning among others for the 3-day 9th AFTRA Teaching and Learning Conference & 11th Roundtable.
In attendance was the Honourable Chief of Staff, Mrs. Frema Opare who represented the President of the Republic of Ghana.
H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was invested with the Presidential Medal of Honour for his immense contribution to education in Ghana in particular and the Africa Region as a whole.
Africa Federation of Teaching Regulatory Authorities (AFTRA) is an intergovernmental organization of the Ministries of Education and National Agencies regulating Teaching in the 55 Member States of the African Union. AFTRA works with the Education Division of the African Union Commission, UNESCO – International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (IICBA) Education International Africa Region, UNESCO Regional offices, Teacher Task Force, Education International and other international organizations.
The international Conference and Roundtable are annual continental landmarks that draw speakers, delegates and participants from Africa and other regions of the world.
This year’s Conference is under the theme – “Unpacking Teaching and Learning in Africa for Excellence”. The conference will provide us the opportunity as a continent to assess the impact of COVID-19 on teaching and learning and the lessons obtained.
