At the early hours of Thursday, 7th May 2026, the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) held a formal matriculation ceremony to welcome students into the NTC Special Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) Programme for Non-Professional Teachers.
The event took place at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre in Winneba. It officially admitted the new cohort into the university community as they begin their transition into professionally trained educators.
The Vice-Chancellor Professor Stephen Jobson Mitchual addressing the matriculants at the event reaffirmed UEW’s commitment to delivering quality teacher education. He encouraged the matriculants to remain disciplined, focused, and dedicated to academic excellence throughout their studies.
Dr. Cecilia Esinam Agbeh the deputy Registrar of NTC in charge of operations, also addressed the gathering. She highlighted the programme’s importance in equipping non-professional teachers with the pedagogical skills and professional competencies needed to improve teaching and learning outcomes across Ghana’s education system.

The NTC-initiated Special PGDE Programme is designed to provide non-professional teachers with structured training and certification that aligns with national teaching standards. The goal is to strengthen professionalism and raise instructional quality in classrooms nationwide.
The ceremony reflected the strong collaboration between UEW and the National Teaching Council (NTC) in advancing teacher development and supporting educational transformation in Ghana.
